New Site

Postby PHoodDaniel » Tue Apr 27, 2010 11:35 pm

With a Huge thanks to Guido and Jonathan (I will omit their last names for privacy reasons) for making the new site possible, the users of this site now have many more features in the forum area. As with similar forums around the net, you will have the ability to post much richer content than before.

There will be a re-direct directly to the forum until the other parts of the website are finished. I plan to continue with many tutorials and designs in a similar fashion to buildyourcnc.com. Please give me feedback regarding the current status and features of the website and let me know what you would like to see.

Many thanks, Patrick Hood-Daniel

What happened to all the topic categories on the old site? I liked having the separate sections.

And more specifically, where should posts about the "book build" go?

They got merged into the new categories here. Put your post in the DIY section.

Is there a reason they are not here in the new site? Will there be new sub-sections or categories?

It was nice to be able to browse more specific topics, rather than the three broad topics that are no in "Community Discussion".

Simplicity and structure. The old site's categories were made on the fly, and so there were a few that contained the majority of posts, and most others that were far too specific and had only one or two. The capabilities of these new forums (search, notification, etc.) allow users to find what they're looking for much easier, without so many categories. As daily posting increases, it will once again make sense to add subforums to help compartmentalize posting traffic. It may seem nice to be able to drill into categories when you're looking for something specific, but it's equally annoying/frustrating to have many categories for users that want to participate more widely. So this is a appropriation of the balance.
