Spindle cooling

Spindle cooling

Postby larry104 » Tue Feb 07, 2017 7:43 pm

Hi all,
I'm considering to buy a spindle and wanted some feedback on how you guys deal with cooling it. I saw some posts where people use CPU water cooling systems (radiator with fan, storage tank/pump) vs. a simple pump in a bucket of water. I find the CPU water cooling system idea interesting - anyone any advice (I noticed that even the new metal build from Patrick uses such a system if you look closely at the video).

Thanks.

If you just use the bucket of water, you'll eventually heat saturate the water, and won't cool any more.

I use a 5 gallon bucket, with a fountain pump in it. On top of the bucket I have a small radiator, and a 120mm 120V fan, all in a 3D printed housing I designed. So as the water returns to the bucket, it goes through my radiator, gets cooled by ambient air forced through the radiator by the fan, and dumps back into the bucket.
If you don’t have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over?
