SHOW & TELL CORNER

Postby keith » Fri Jun 17, 2011 5:28 pm

This is what I cut this week; It is the Aztec Calendar and I have cut 2 of them to be used as Dinner trays for when my son and his wife eat their dinner in front of the TV.
Of course they will need to be completely sealed with varnish as they are MDF.

Keith I got to say that is pretty Bad Ask! I have wanted to cut one of those for a while, got any g-code I could plug into my machine this evening for giggles. What was the bit used?

I used a 12.7mm 90 degree V-Groove & a 6.3mm Straight cutter for the cut out, I ran the machine at 30mm/sec for the V-Groove and 35mm/sec for the Cut Out. It took just under 2 hours to do the V-Groove and then only a few minutes for the Cut Out.

As I use VCarve Pro & MACH3 I have uploaded the G-Code txt files I used. If you follow the link below you will see that a person named Fleury1982 did a similar thing some time ago but as the thread says mine looks like the "negative" image of what he posted.

So some time next week if I get time I am going to try and cut his version. I would say that which ever version of the Aztec Calendar anyone cuts it is an excellent piece to test the accuracy of your machine.

If anyone else cuts it please post pictures. :D

I like yours better! It seems more legible. Can you make one with the entire thing cut in the x+ y+ quadrant (so that 0,0 is at the lower left of the calendar.

Hello Mike,

Sorry I have not been looking at the forum for a few days, pressures of the paying job.
I am not sure I understand you, are you asking me to generate the G-code again but this time with the starting point not in the center but somewhere else?

Mike, and anyone elses who wanted the files here they are; I have reset the 0,0 position to the bottom left hand corner.
The file is set to make the Aztec Calendar using a board 18" X 18" X 3/4".
It is set to use a 12.7mm 90degree V-groove bit running at 22000rpm
There are 2 files as you can see; one cuts the V groove and the other one cuts out the disc

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE dry cut these before you try them!

And of course upload pictures of your work :D
