HELP! planet cnc start of the nc problem

Postby hoodge776 » Sat Nov 01, 2014 9:41 pm

so im not sure if this is an offset problem or what but whenever i start a program the machine first goes to .5 above the part asks me to insert the tool and the like and then jogs to z0 and drags the cutter across the top of my work till it reaches the start point. i have added .125" as clearance when moving to new positions so this should not be happening. does anyone know if this is a cam problem or a machine control setting?

A suggestion: You should provide more information such as the type of machine and your controller and CAM software. Some problems are well known and a detailed solution can be provided by folks with the knowledge.

Inspect the beginning of your g-code file and decode the machine commands. You will likely find M type commands that are doing things you do not want. Also, G91 and G92 commands may also be included. These tend to reset the machine to stored coordinates, other than what you homed your machine to. To prevent this from happening in the future, you will need to modify your post-processors in the software that generates the GCode.
It always takes longer than you expect, even when you take into account Hofstadter's Law

sorry about that including those slipped my mind. it is a 2x4 black toe, planet cnc controller and iv used cam bam and mastercam resulting in the same problem. I did translate the code in my program and it didn't reveal anything to me.

N100 G20 (set coordinate system)
N102 G0 (rapid move) G17(plane selection) G40(compensation off) G49(cancel tool length compensation) G80(cancel canned cycle) G90(distance mode absolute)
N104 T1 M6 (tool change)
N106 G0(rapid move) G90(distance mode absolute) G54(select coordinate system 1) X-18.067 Y2.2895(xy distance to move) S10000 M3 (spindle speed set)
N108 G43(tool length offset) H1(hight offset) Z.25(z distance to move to)
N110 Z.2(z distance to move to)
N112 G1(linear move) Z-.23(z distance to move) F30.(federate set)

the problem happens after the tool change. at first I thought I had something to do with the g54 but looking into it further reveled nothing to me. then I thought maybe the g17 but all that does is tell it that its milling in the xy coordinate plane. funny thing tho there is nothing in the code that I can see that tells the z to move to z0.

well I figured it out it had to do with the automatic tool changer option enabled. it was causing the problem.
