Washer for V-groove bearing

Washer for V-groove bearing

Postby dfajardo42 » Sat Feb 22, 2014 3:15 am

I'm using the 3/8 inner diameter V-grove bearings on my own CNC machine, and need to keep the bearing from rubbing against the plate it is mounted on. In the Blacktoe assembly video this is refered to as a "small" washer, but I don't seem to find it listed on the buildyourcnc.com site.

(1) Is this washer available separatly?
(2) What is the size (outer diameter) of this washer? (The drawings for the V-groove bearing do not give this dimension).

Thanks!

I don't think Patrick sells them separately. They are called shim washers, and you can buy them at McMaster-Carr online. The outer diameter is smaller than the outer race, so it doesn't rub/touch, and the inner diameter is the same size as the hole in the bearing.
If you don’t have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over?

Thanks - That gives me a good clue what to look for. It's clear from the drawings that the inside diameter is 3/8; anyone know what the outer diameter is? It's not on the drawings.

Shim washers are specifically made for this purpose. I don't think it matters what the outer diameter is, within reason, because they will come designed to do this job already. Go look them up on McMaster, and you'll see. They just need to be wide enough to cover the center axle tube of the bearing.

We have the shim washers available that have the recommended OD and thickness that works well for our v-groove bearings. You can see them here: https://www.buildyourcnc.com/item/hardw ... orBearings

Well there you have it. I stand corrected - he does have them! :-)
