Did you guys see the newsletter showing a picture of the new Metal Machine from BuildYourCNC?

There are some interesting new concepts - one is using the chain as rack and pinion drive on the X-Axis (at least this is what it looks like). Can't wait to see more details!

I did see that. I want to see more about it.
If you don’t have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over?

I just saw that they will be showcasing that machine at the Houston Mini makers faire. I'll be there Saturday. I'm kind of excited to see what it's all about. I'm in the process of saving for a new machine now, this may help me make my decision ha

I guess they didn't come. They had a machine of theirs set up for their towns maker space but I couldn't anyone from BYCNC...the faire in whole was mostly 3d printers of all shapes and sizes. Was a pretty cool deal none the less

I have just watched the video a few times and I can see that whilst it looks very much linke the chain might be being used as some form of rack & pinion drive system I don't think it is.

If you look at the picture I have uploaded it looks pretty much that same as the Blacktoe system except that the chain is inside.

It is a very nice machine. :D

X-Drive Chain
X&Y axis are still chain drive. X gantry chains lay outside and adjacent to the HG20 block guides & rails. You can see this at the very beginning of the video. Nice design and layout.

Keith's photo just shows the top X motor shaft sprocket driving a loop chain to the lower X-drive double sprocket that engages the X-Gantry chain.
