max lead screw length

max lead screw length

I've read that long screws have problems at speed because they tend to whip about. So, how long would be practical for lead screws listed on the main site (https://www.buildyourcnc.com/item/mechanical-leadscrews-lead-screw-!5-5-starts-10-tpi), that are 1/2 inch, 5 start, 10 TPI? For example, do you think it might work well to have a 4 foot run, perhaps about 5 feet in total length? If the regular steppers (also on the main site) are utilized, what do you suppose a maximum practical feed rate would be? I'm guessing I wouldn't be able to jog around at 300 IPM, but how about cutting at 100?
-thanks

Yeah, 4-5' is probably getting to the reasonable limits. If you went longer, you'd probably want much larger diameter screws.
If you don’t have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over?
